Out with the old in with the new!

I was super tired after viewing the lava!  I had a total fuddie-duddie night....I was in bed by nine!  At midnight I woke up to the loud red firecrackers - the big daddy 10,000 pack with the explosion in the center - and my whole neighborhood yelling HAPPY NEW YEARS - HAU'OLI MAKAHIKI HOU!!!!  It was cool to get to celebrate in some small way.  When I woke up the evidence of a well celebrated New Years was all over my street - yay Hilo!

Lava

On the last day of the year I woke up really early and drove down to the lava flow with a friend.  The Big Island is constantly changing - large chunks of land dropping into the water while new chunks of land are being formed.  In the Kalapana area where the lave continuously meets the sea - homes are lost and rebuilt.  Madame Pele (our Hawaiian Fire Goddess) is constantly at work and can never be forgotten.  Change is the constant on the side of the island.  As always, the power - destructive and regenerative - is mind blowing.  It was a perfect end to the year - to literally watch new beginnings - out with the old and in with the new!  I am about to fill this page up with photos - I could have taken photos for ever - It was epic...
